It was in San Francisco, on October 13, 1955, at the Six Gallery on Fillmore Street that six San Francisco poets, Kenneth Rexroth, Allen Ginsberg, , Phillip Walen, Philip Lamantia, and (then just a teenager), read their poetry and, according to Jack Kerouac, the Beat generation novelist, started the San Francisco poetry renaissance.
